Traditional (Blue Box): Provides a pure sound quality with a thin tip for a quick response.
JAVA: Known for its flexibility and quick response, great for jazz and contemporary music.
JAVA Red: Features a thicker tip and a more flexible palette, offering a full, rich, centred sound.
ZZ: Combines the heart of the V16 and the flexible palette design of the JAVA, producing a rich, colourful sound with immediate response.
V16: Designed for a powerful and deep tone, particularly suited for jazz musicians.
Reed strengths
Vandoren reeds are available in various strengths, typically ranging from 1.5 to 5. The strength of a reed affects its stiffness and resistance, which in turn impacts the ease of play and the sound produced. Beginners often start with softer reeds (lower numbers), while more advanced players may prefer harder reeds (higher numbers) for their richer and more controlled sound.
Personally, I love these reeds and have played on them all my life. You can check out my
